Launching the 'Outstanding For Others' Program: A New Era of Service at ̨ž³UUApp
At ̨ž³UUApp, we are steadfast in nurturing the spirit of courage, commitment, and compassion within our students. As part of this, we are excited to announce the launch of our new Acts of Service Program, 'Outstanding For Others,' which will replace the former Christian Service Learning model.
After extensive consultation with students and thorough research, we have developed a program that breaks away from the traditional model of recording hours and reflections. Instead, 'Outstanding For Others' employs a tiered system to recognise and reward acts of service, making it more engaging and impactful for our students. In this way we feel our students, from Kindergarten all the way to Year 12, can find authentic ways to use the heads, hearts and hands to improve the world even in small ways.
The new program categorises acts of service into three tiers, each reflecting the level of commitment and impact:
Tier 1 Acts (1 point each): These are one-off activities connected to school or personal life, such as helping a neighbour with their gardening while they recover from surgery. These acts, though small, are significant in fostering a sense of community and support.
Tier 2 Acts (3 points each): These require a greater commitment and are usually project-based, either within the College or in personal life. Examples include volunteering for the Winter Sleepout or coaching a junior sports team. These activities encourage sustained involvement and a deeper connection to service.
Tier 3 Acts (5 points each): These acts are completely self-driven, usually not connected with the College, and involve a strong sense of commitment over time. Examples include volunteering on a roster at a soup kitchen or helping migrants with their English. These activities embody the highest level of service, requiring dedication and initiative.
To complete the program, all students need to earn a total of 15 points within an academic year. Those who exceed this target will be eligible for special recognition and awards, celebrating their extraordinary commitment to service.
In the coming weeks, we will formally launch the 'Outstanding For Others' program along with a new and improved Ministry Portal. This portal will provide an easy-to-use platform for students to record their acts of service and track their progress.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the College Student Ministry Team for their invaluable input in developing this program, especially our Ministry Captains, Hannah and Declan. Their leadership and vision have been instrumental in shaping a program that truly reflects the values of our College.
Our hope is that the 'Outstanding For Others' program will ignite the spirit of courage, commitment, and compassion among our students, and enable ̨ž³UUApp to have a significant impact on the wider community. Through this program, we aim to inspire our students to go beyond themselves and make a lasting difference in the lives of others.
We look forward to seeing the remarkable ways in which our students will embrace this new model and continue to uphold the proud tradition of service at ̨ž³UUApp.
